AS WE CELEBRATED LABOR DAY THIS YEAR, WE AGAIN RECOGNIZED THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE GREAT TRAGEDY OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001; A TERRORIST ATTACK ON THE UNITED STATES, WHICH KILLED THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE. WE ESTABLISHED AN EXHIBIT IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO DIED AND THOSE WHO CONTINUE TO SUFFER FROM THEIR WOUNDS. IN ADDITION, AN ORIGINAL FLAG, REPLACED WHEN IT WAS TORN, TATTERED AND COVERED WITH DEBRIS, WAS ON SPECIAL DISPLAY IN OUR MUSEUM FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were at the museum on December 7, 2019, the day set aside to remember Imperial Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.
The Lincoln Train Museum celebrates the spirit of America and American heritage, dedicated to the brilliance, courage and faith of President Abraham Lincoln. As President Lincoln brought the United States through turmoil of a terrible divisive war that saw roughly 620,000 military personnel killed and an equal number wounded, so did the courage and bravery of so many members of the United States Armed Services during World War II. World War II resulted in estimates as high as 75 million people killed worldwide, with 407,317 U.S. military personnel dead and nearly 700,000 wounded.
Without their sacrifice we would not be able to celebrate Christmas.
We are able to enjoy the wonderful spirit of this Christmas season, the wonders and joys of Gettysburg's Christmas Festival, the fun of Santa and promise of glad tidings thanks to the sacrifice of those brave souls who preserved our freedom.

RELIC HUNT ADDS TO CIVIL WAR DISPLAYS

In October of 2019, several members of the Pen Mar Historical Recovery Association conducted a relic hunt on a famous Civil War farm nearby and not on the actual battlefield (it is illegal to conduct relic hunting anywhere within the boundaries of the Gettysburg National Military Park). The farm served as a hospital during the battle and members were given permission by the landowner and issued maps to mark the locations of any finds that might be made. An orientation was also presented setting the historical context. Any and all historical finds were to be donated to the museum.
Don Hinks, veteran metal detector hobbyist and former owner of Gettysburg Electronics and also the Christian Bookstore in downtown Gettysburg,  participated in the relic hunt and helped to identify all discoveries.
A rare New York uniform button was found along with foldable map dividers. Remnants of the battle were dug in large quantities. Hundreds of
Minié balls were excavated. One Minié ball had been carved, likely by a wounded soldier with time on his hands. Among the buckles and accoutrements found was a flattened silver medicine container uncovered by 14-year-old Harmony Shipley. Once the relics were cleaned and further identified, they were be put on display in the museum. Our sincere thanks to one and all!!!

We have an exhibit dedicated to Sergeant Michael Lester who
received a Purple Heart medal for the wound he received in 1945 in Europe during World War II. One of Sergeant Lester's family members who  visited our museum explained that Lester was delivering the official correspondence pictured above when he was shot. The hole in the letter is from the bullet that wounded him.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN HAD A FAVORITE PEN KNIFE. HE USED IT OFTEN AS A TOOL ON THE FRONTIER AND IN THE WHITE HOUSE. A FAMOUS PHOTOGRAPH DEPICTS LINCOLN AT HIS OFFICE DESK, WITH AN APPLE IN ONE HAND AND WITH HIS PEN KNIFE READY TO SLICE IT.
A GOOD, RELIABLE KNIFE WAS NECESSARY ON THE FRONTIER. FARMERS, SPORTSMEN AND PEOPLE GO ABOUT THEIR DAILY CHORES WHERE A DEPENDABLE KNIFE IS NECESSARY.
IN KEEPING WITH THE SPIRIT OF AMERICA AND WITH PRIDE IN OUR AMERICAN CRAFTSMANSHIP, THE MUSEUM HAS ADDED AN INFORMATIVE DISPLAY SHOWING HOW KNIVES ARE MADE.
THE MUSEUM SHOP AND GIFT STORE HAS RECENTLY BECOME AN OFFICIAL BUCK KNIFE DEALER AND OFFERS THESE U.S. MADE KNIVES WITH THEIR FOREVER WARRANTY FOR SALE.

At the Lincoln Train Museum, we love trains!  And we love to share that with all of our guests. Occasionally, our guests want to share their love for trains by sharing their own collections. Such was the case when Littlestown, Pennsylvania resident, Hank Parlette brought in his treasured Steam Locomotive, Tender, and Railcar sold in the early 1900's. Hank stated that he inherited this train from his father and has kept it in the family ever since. This train was powered by actual steam that was generated by a boiler on the locomotive. They don't make 'em like they used to!
