Hanover Junction Living History

After four months of planning by local historian Randy Drais and in coordination with the York County Parks and Recreation Department and Steam Into History, Inc., on November 12, 2016 photo reenactments were conducted of two November 1863 photographs taken at Hanover Junction, Pennsylvania, when President Abraham Lincoln’s train from Washington, D.C. briefly stopped there on November 18, 1863 its way to Gettysburg for the dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery on November 19, 1863.

It should be noted that well-known York Civil War historian/author Scott Mingus, Sr. was one of the participants. A special “Thank You” must be given to photographer Tom Miller for his hard work, as well as Hillary Hess, Visitor Service Manager of Steam Into History, Inc., for the use of the locomotive, and James Haney (their Abraham Lincoln reenactor on board that special excursion train that day), and Tammy Klunk, Director of the York County Parks and Recreation Department. The “trip back into time” was a fantastic and truly unforgettable one-of-a-kind experience for one and all!!!
